To make it easier for your cat to take inhaled drugs, there are two ideas to keep in mind: get the cat used to the mask and make the experience positive. There are several ways to do this :
- Place only the mask on your cat’s nose to get it used to the mask and to the feeling. It is important to do that before having to administer treatment, so that your cat does not associate the mask to its respiratory distress.
- Spread tuna oil or other products your cat likes in the mask. Indeed, the smell of plastic may cause your cat to reject the mask.
- Give attention to your cat with petting, for instance. This way, your cat will be relaxed before taking its treatment and will see the treatment administration as something positive.
- Reward your cat with petting or treats after administering the treatment to make the experience positive.
